Wedding Photography - How it works

Before the big day

Before the day itself, i'll usually consult with the bride and groom, (preferably in person, but sometimes by phone or email) We'll work out together what is needed. I have a helpful pricing guide which breaks down the various packages that I offer. These are a good guide although I can be flexible with exactly what's included.

The Pre-Wedding/ Engagement shoot

I'll typically arrange a meeting with the couple some time before the wedding for a less formal engagement portrait shoot. The photographs can be taken in a location of your choice. (For examples and testimonials, check out the Engagement gallery.) This pre-wedding shoot has many benefits, including getting the couple comfortable with being photographed, providing a great set of professional images to keep, and crucially, the photos can be used to design invitations, slideshows and programmes for the ceremony itself. For more information on the design of the wedding stationary, see the Invitation and programme page.

On the Day

I'll start to document the day typically from when the bride and groom are getting ready, about an hour before the bride sets off for the church service.

Through the day I will be shooting in a documentary style; remaining unobtrusive, but capturing the key moments - the entrance of the bride, the vows, the kiss etc...all the way to the speeches at the reception. The style I work in is 'reportage'. I aim to have a varied collection of natural images, which capture the key moments and mood of the entire day.

I'm also able to capture the more traditionally posed shots of family and friends between the service and the reception. Usually at a scenic, outdoor location nearby (weather permitting) If required, I can also arrange for a studio backdrop and lights to be set up at the venue of the reception, and have a professional Photo Booth to take commemorative shots of the guests.

After the Wedding

After the ceremony, I begin the editing process. With the aim of having all of  the photos ready within a couple of weeks. Typically, I will select a few of my favourites from the day to create a blog post and send some key ones to the couple to enjoy once they return from the honeymoon. The final selection of photos will  usually range between about 300-400. Other outcomes from the wedding may include any of the following: (please refer to the pricing document for a full breakdown of costs)

  • A Selection of up to 450 edited photos delivered via a web server or USB stick
  • A 30-Page perfect-bound wedding album
  • A 3 minute video slideshow documenting the entire day
  • A bespoke wedding album - with either leather or steel binding
  • Glossy photo prints in a range of sizes
  • A coated canvas print of individual favourite images
